What to bring

We encourage you to bring:

  • picnic rugs and ground seating
  • hat and sunscreen
  • free-standing small shade structures (no pegging into the ground allowed). Please note all shade structures must be dismantled prior to the event broadcast beginning to give all patrons around you a clear view of the show.
  • plenty of Christmas cheer!

What not to bring

  • Plastic ground cover
  • Elevated seating and large beach umbrellas
  • Glass products
  • Tent or camping pegs of any sort (metal, plastic or wooden), as they damage underground irrigation and are a hazard to picnickers and footballers using the Domain
  • Sparklers / Fireworks
  • Tents or marquees
  • Pets
  • BBQs
  • Bean bags or inflatable furniture
  • Please note: this is a family event it is alcohol restricted. Only bring small quantities of alcohol according to the safe drinking standards set out by the Department of Health - click here for guidelines. Intoxication will not be permitted.

Food and Beverages

A delicious array of delights are available at this year’s Carols in the Domain. Sink your teeth into a Brazilian BBQ or a fresh made to order Gozleme. Enjoy some take away classics like Souvlaki, Pizza, Fish & Chips, and everyone’s favourite Chip on a Stick. And if the summer sun becomes too much, you can always cool off with a Frozen drink or a scoop of gelato.

You are also welcome to bring your own food and drinks along to The Domain, as long as they adhere to our no glass policy. Glass is not allowed at the Domain so please bring plastic bottles and containers, or cans instead.

Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the event day.

Woolworths Carols in the Domain is an alcohol restricted event:

·        Please note that alcohol will not be sold at the venue during the event.

·        Patrons bringing alcohol to the event will be monitored by security and the police.

·        Patrons who become intoxicated, abusive, offensive or quarrelsome will be removed from the site.

Accessibility Information

Priority Access Viewing Area:

A Priority Access Viewing Area is available for guests in wheelchairs and those with a mobility aid. Guests may be accompanied by a maximum of two carers inside the designated area. 

The location is adjacent to Central Avenue close to the pathway. As this area is free it operates on a first come first served basis and generally reaches capacity in the early afternoon. Please arrive early to secure a position and avoid disappointment.

Limited Mobility Reserved Seating Tickets:

There is a limited number of tickets available for purchase for people with limited mobility requiring seating within the Reserved Seating area. For more information please click here to be redirected to our ticketing page through Ticketbooth. 

Accessible Parking:

Please note that Carols does not have dedicated accessible parking however there is a vehicle drop off zone on the corner of Hospital and Art Gallery Roads, with a direct walkway up Central Avenue leading to the Priority Access Viewing Area. The Art Gallery of Sydney has a limited amount of accessible parking spaces available to the public on Art Gallery Road which will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Information / Lost Children

There is a Lost Children/Information Booth located on the stage left side of the venue near the main Hospital Road crossing. 

This booth is manned by qualified Salvation Army representatives. Both the Salvos staff and roaming security staff will be able to assist with a lost child or general event enquiries. Please assist the Carols Team with lost kids by writing your mobile phone number on their arm. This way we can contact you sooner.

Public Amenities

Standard toilet blocks are available along the perimeters of The Domain precinct in the following locations:

  • Hospital Road
  • Arbour Day Walk/Cahill Expressway
  • Central Avenue/Hospital Road corner

Accessibility toilets are located at the following four points:

  • Northern end of the Hospital Road toilet block
  • Both ends of the Arbour Day Walk/Cahill Expressway toilet block
  • Central Avenue/Hospital Road toilet block
  • Near the Priority Access Viewing Area on Central Ave

Seating at the Event

Outside of the reserved seating section the event is entirely free to patrons and is lawn seating only.

Patrons are encouraged to bring picnic rugs and seating such as deck/camping chairs with low legs which sit no higher than 23cms. Please note that high chairs and beach umbrellas cannot be used on the Domain site so be sure to bring your sunscreen and hat along with you.

If you would prefer to hire a chair onsite, Sitting Comfortably provide a chair for hire service for $10 per chair with a refundable deposit upon return at the end of the event. 

You will find them at two locations – 1. near the Hospital Road crossing entrance and 2. along Central Avenue near the stage.


Public phones are located on the corner of Hospital Road and Macquarie Street near The Domain. The Art Gallery of NSW and Sydney Hospital also have public phones.

Preserving the Gardens

Please respect the beautiful environment of The Royal Botanic Gardens whilst you are enjoying Carols.

Lost Property

Lost property can be handed in to the nearest security guard or to the Salvos at the Information Booth at Hospital Road.

All Lost Property will remain onsite until 9am Tuesday 24th December when it will be taken to The Rocks Police Station.


In the Christmas spirit Wilson Domain Car Park is offering a special event rate for this year’s Carols in the Domain.

Park within walking distance to the Domain for just $25 on Friday 20 December (from 4pm onwards) for the dress rehearsal or for $35 all day Saturday 21 December for the live broadcast.
