Hans The German

Hans is Germany’s proudest export and “a total showman (who) works the crowd like the well-seasoned comedian and entertainer he is.” (The Clothesline, 2019)

An international superstar, accordionist and Berlin boy-wonder, Hans has been thrilling audiences around the globe with his own fabulous brand of critically acclaimed cabaret for over a decade, performing for everyone from Prime Ministers to Princesses, paupers and paper boys.

In 2018 this wonder boy from Berlin won the hearts of 16 million Americans with his cheeky and electrifying song and dance routines on the juggernaut American talent series America’s Got Talent. Hans was much loved amongst judges Mel B, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and host Tyra Banks. As Hans put it, “Darlings, I went there to make America glitter again. It was calling and I answered!”

So far in 2019 Hans has won Best Cabaret at the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival Awards with a sell-out season of Hans: Like a German, and he performed a thrilling Eurovision medley at Eurovision: Australia Decides Live. He has also appeared on The Good Friday Appeal and Celebrity Name Game.

The Australian Parliament have also taken note of Hans, and invited him to perform the opening number at the 2019 Mid-Winter Ball at Parliament House, Canberra.

Hans’ 2019 national tour of Hans: Like a German commences in Melbourne in October, with tour dates in Sydney, Perth and regional Western Australia and South Australia.

Hans’ other wins include Best Cabaret at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Perth Fringe Festival. His earlier productions include Viva Hans Vegas (2016), Mein Camp (2017)  and If You Don’t Love Me…Leave! (2018). “Year after year his doting fans pack his venues to the rafters and fall about in mirth at his every piece of cheeky schtick.” (Barefoot Review, 2019).

Hans is the creation of Adelaide born Matt Gilbertson, himself an accomplished journalist who has worked in print, radio and television.
